Happy Monday, world!
Today brings one of my absolute favourite jewellers, Bloody Mary Metal. I’ve seen them pop up on Instagram and on friend’s fingers over the last couple of years and so honoured today that they have agreed to be featured on our Wedding Spotlight series!
I’ll let Lucy continue…
First things first, could you tell us a little bit about yourself and what you do?
I’m Lucy “Tomatoes” Chenoweth, owner of Bloody Mary Metal jewellery. We’re an independent jewellers based by the sea in Cornwall, making jewellery for adventurers, beach bums, rock n rollers alike! I set BMM up in 2012, and the business now comprises of myself, Christine (Manager), Kate and Tristan (jewellers) and Eddie (graphic designer).
What inspires you to push yourself creatively or further in business?
Probably my own competitiveness?! I am, and have been, very lucky to be surrounded by incredibly talented, driven and motivated people which helps! I knew I wanted to be my own boss, and now I have an amazing team; so it’s them that drive this on too! We HAVE to make it a success because its all of ours, its our careers and we love what we do!
What does your daily routine look like?
During work time? We start the day with a strong coffee and checking and responding to emails- these vary from general enquiries, wholesale requests, bespoke orders etc. Our days vary, but you can usually find us split between sourcing and buying stones, planning and sketching (albeit questionably!) custom and bespoke work, on the bench processing orders from our website, designing new collections and ideas, pulling together marketing ideas, creating one off pieces for our “Last Chance Saloon”, ogling new stones and wishing we could all have multiple engagement and wedding rings because we’re all magpies!! Ha!
What’s your favourite memory from working in this field so far?
Oooooh tough one! It was an honour to win the Young Business Person of the Year award at the WMN Awards! To be honest, every single time someone asks us to make them an engagement or wedding ring its a huge honour!! Secrets are the name of the game for us, so when we’ve created a one off engagement ring, and the guy (or girl!) finally proposes, its amazing!! We’ve made wedding rings for some of our closest friends which is amazing, and I entrusted my team to make my husbands wedding ring last year too! Such a special thing to be involved with! We have celebrities wearing our jewels too, which is awesome, but I think making engagement or wedding rings for people tops that feeling!
What advice would you give to couples to make the most of their wedding day?
