The Wedding Spotlight – Maggie Rose Bouquets

We’re back with another gorgeous wedding supplier feature this week; the work of Maggie Rose Bouquets. These incredible designs are handcrafted by Karen Fox and her daughter, Laura Fox. I’ll let them tell you more…

First things first, could you tell us a little bit about yourself and what you do?

Karen: From the age of 17 I started work for John Lewis, I worked there for 27 years as a Visual Merchaniser. I loved my time working with all the new fashions and soft furnishings that were on trend at that particular time. John Lewis are a fabulous company to work for, I was fortunate to enjoy a mid-career break whilst working for them and during that time off I evaluated what I wanted to do next.

I have always enjoyed art and being creative, and an opportunity came up for me to work in a local senior school in Derbyshire where I have worked as an Art Technician for the past 10 years. I throughly enjoy my job as it is so varied; from the age of the students (11yrs-18yrs) and the materials that we use.

Last year my Mother moved into a smaller property, which meant that she needed to downsize her belongings. She offered me a box for school which contained my Grandmother’s jewellery. I remember her wearing them from when I was a child, she used to wear thick wool coats with large shawl style collars and always had a broach pinned on, so I could picture her wearing most of the jewels that were in the box and I couldn’t bear to get rid of them.

In summer 2012 I looked into ideas online that I might be able to use them for, and the rest is history. I managed to make 3 bouquets from them… so needless to say that is why I call this business ‘Maggie Rose bouquets’ after my Grandmother.

Laura: All my life I have been brought up in a very creative household. From a very young age my house was always the place to go because we would always be busy making things, whether it was femo beads for bracelets or getting the sewing machine out and making cushions, I was always up to something with family and friends.

In 2011 I started my job in a local senior school in Sheffield where I have worked as a Design Technology Technician for the past 4 years. I love my job as it is also so varied; from chopping wood, sewing with the students or cooking up a lovely restaurant quality meal.

I am enjoying being part of ‘Maggie Rose Bouquets’ and helping my mother. It’s so rewarding to see the bride’s face when she receives her bespoke bouquet.

What inspires you to push yourself creatively or further in business?

We are always on the look out for new pieces to inspire us to create new concepts and ideas for our customers to receive the most up to date styles.

What does your daily routine look like?

As we both work in schools, any time after 4pm we devote our time to the business. Whether it’s fulfilling existing orders, meeting brides for new appointments, standing at wedding fayres or being creative online to discover new collections.

What’s your favourite memory from working in this field so far?

Being able to use family pieces of jewellery and knowing that they are going towards a keepsake for a bride on their special day.

What advice would you give to couples to make the most of their wedding day?

Enjoy every moment; take it all in as it can go far too quickly!

Thank you Karen & Laura for being part of this, we love how much passion you have and how much it means to you personally!
