Picture this: You left the house in good time, confident in making it to bridal prep for the arranged schedule. Coffee in one hand, car keys in the other. Apple Music on shuffle as you slay across the country, destination: The Barn at Alswick for Kiran & Nik’s wedding.
SatNav: There is a closed road on your route, accept diversion? Sure, why not.
Then absolute panic as you realise (upon greater inspection of Google maps) that the closed road is indeed the very road that the barn is situated on. Deep breath, figure it out when you get there. Mostly the way I rock through life, if I’m honest.
Relief as the large circular sign at the road entrance reads access only. You need access, so you drive through. Slight worry that you’re about 15 minutes late and lateness is just not acceptable. Arrive, the bride isn’t even here yet. The wedding day is off to a good start.
When Kiran arrived and saw the set up of the barn at Alswick, she became emotional. The beginning lines of her speech read ‘I can’t even believe I’m here, at my wedding..‘. She hadn’t encountered any potentials until she met Nik and they spent the first date laughing and chatting as though they had known each other for years. His tenderness for her family, her acceptance and absolute pride for his daughter Priya. And there she was, at their wedding.
These are the days I love to be part of.
