BEST OF WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY 2016
January 2nd, 2017. 18:50pm.
I think the only way that I’m going to be able to write the introduction to this post is in small segments. To be as truthful as possible these are words that need to come from the heart; and not what I think will sound good when I note it down. Currently I’m a little sad. I’m not entirely sure that I realised how very little time I’ve had to reflect on 2016, as I’ve simply been doing my very best to keep my head above water in so many different areas. This is truly the first opportunity that I’ve had to actually acknowledge the basics of what I’ve been experiencing and for someone who holds dear the intention of being PRESENT, to have to accept that I probably haven’t been is quite heartbreaking.
Having said that, I’m a great deal prouder of these images than I thought I would be. I’ve given 150% at every single wedding I’ve attended this year and yet I’ve been so slack at blogging and just truly appreciating what I’ve created. Every year that has been before I’ve known which images were going to make the cut before I had even sat down at the IMac and this year I genuinely had forgotten that there was an entire folder of portrait shoots that I don’t even recognise as being from 2016. A pleasant surprise, I guess. Also a case in point of how…. distracted… I feel I’ve been.
Everything that I have been through in my life collides together to create the person that I am today and I’ve made some of the hardest decisions of my life in the last few months. I had thought about leaving a lot of these memories out, if I’m honest, but actually it does them a disservice to forget that they existed. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, right?

On a lighter note…. WHY ARE THERE SO MANY IMAGES TO CHOOSE FROM!? *rips hair out*
Okay, I’ve completed looking through each and every gallery. 278 images to try and whittle down somewhat. I’ve always taken pride in being more of a ‘storyteller’ (what does that actually mean in wedding photography nowadays?!), but these images have been selected because I feel they can stand on their own two feet as being inherently artistic themselves; rather than needing to be explained by others around them.
The edit has definitely shown up areas I want to work on more this year, specifically coming back to my photojournalistic roots and allowing what IS more so than what could be. Not that I direct really more than 2% of a wedding day…. but the majority of the work I’ve seen of mine having done this feels more contrived or snapshot-like than it ought to be.
Anyway, rambling now. I hope you enjoy them. Featuring Italy (x3), Spain, Thailand, plus all over the UK.
Thank you so much to each and every person who has contributed to this year, all my family and friends, all of my couples, all of the guests at the wedding that simply make it easy to do my job well. Thank you to all of the suppliers, the managers of venues, the taxi drivers; to anyone who equally puts so much of themselves into this day to make it something special for two people who love each other.
That is what life is about.
