Five Reasons To Get Married At Fforest

Five Reasons To Get Married At Fforest

Fforest just recently celebrated ten years of existence. On their celebratory online journal entry they describe the experience of being with them using these words: “When you stay at fforest it makes an impression on you and you’ll never be quite the same again.

I’ve had the absolute pleasure of photographing six weddings now at Fforest farm over the last seven years. This means that I can confirm the above statement is 100% true. Driving down through the beautiful valleys of Cilgerran towards the camp inspires a deep rooted, soul fulfilling awareness of being at home.

And that’s precisely what you get to make it. Home. For the three days of your wedding weekend, you have everything that you need on site. Even better, you’re surrounded by your closest friends and family. Which brings me to my first reason to get married at fforest…

1. It’s yours for the weekend.

Fancy seeing pizza made fresh in front of you on Friday night? Arrive in the afternoon and check in to your accommodation (the options of which are endless). Take a walk around the farm and instantly decide you want to grow your own veg after seeing the raised beds by the Garden Rooms. The on site pub (Bwthyn) will open in the evening for as many drinks as you want to consume. Top tip: set a curfew for your guests! I’ve seen WAY too many hungover faces on the Saturday morning…

Saturday. It’s your wedding day! Since the renovations of the Farmhouse completed in late 2015 the main wedding party contingent will be rising to freshly made coffee. This will be made in the Pinterest-worthy kitchen and you’ll snuggling back into fresh white sheets in one of the 5 beautiful bedrooms. Then, why not all gather in one room for wedding preparations? Your makeup artist and photographer (that’s me) will love you for the light streaming through the windows. Fast forward a few hours and you’ll have put a freaking ring on it! Spend a couple of hours grazing on a very sophisticated version of afternoon tea (other options available, but I definitely recommend this one!) surrounded by smiling faces. Fforest is surrounded by miles of countryside so there isn’t a noise restriction… you can stay up and party the night away.

Sunday. Brunch and coffee needed? Done.

2. Freshly made food on-site.

Being a massive foodie, this is a big deal for me.

The pizza bases served on the Friday night are freshly made in front of you, with a choice of toppings.

There is a tea and coffee station permanently located by the teepee where you can brew your own coffee, enjoyed from much loved enamel mugs.

The raised garden beds deliver a lot of gorgeous fresh produce. The salads served alongside your afternoon tea and hog roast include edible flowers and herbs grown on site. Fforest are inspired by supporting local businesses and suppliers so the meat is from high quality providers just a short distance away.

It’s important we look after our planet and the sustainability of our food system. Fforest adhere to this entirely.

3. The light is incredible.

Being nestled in the valley that it is, Fforest gets the most beautiful sunrises and sunsets.

Not only does this make it the perfect place to sit out on the deck with a warm cuppa and enjoy the beauty, but it will also make your photographer incredibly happy. Light is everything for us.

In the farmhouse, the airy-almost-Scandi aesthetic of the bedrooms ensures that the light just bounces from wall to ceiling to floor and back again.

If the weather allows it (and only if advised safe by the team), I would definitely recommend asking for the teepee sides to be open if you chose to hold your wedding ceremony within it.

4. The options for locations are endless.

Over winter Fforest can host weddings for up to 40 on the farm. In the summer the numbers range from small up to 250.

If you chose a civil ceremony there is the option of three different locations: split level lodge barn, garden pavilion and on site pub. If you chose to have a humanist celebration, there are endless fields and beaches, the fire pit, woodland and so many more.

Dining options include the farmhouse or fforest lodge for smaller groups. The split level barn or the cedar barn for larger parties or more informal outside dining for unlimited numbers.

I believe that having this opportunity for choice adds to the relaxed and freeing feeling that Fforest provides. Every wedding is different and every couple is different and a venue that can provide a multitude of ways in which you can express your love is such a necessity.

5. The team that are Fforest.

I can’t express enough what a warm welcome I have received every single time I’ve visited. That’s just as a photographer. I’ve had the pleasure of seeing the same faces over the last seven years. For team members to stay on definitely speaks volumes about the venue.

Over the wedding weekend, the team can’t do enough for you. At check in you are given beautifully illustrated maps to the accommodation. If you need any assistance over the weekend there are phone numbers written up on a chalk board outside the lodge. The on site shop sells eco-friendly products should you have forgotten something. Don’t spend money on orders of service because the chalk boards are decorated with

Dietary requirements are catered for and beer recommendations are given. It truly feels like you’re adding the Fforest team to your extended family.
