Samui is sticky, sweaty and stifling today.
The jetlag has been wiping me out the past couple of days, however this morning I finally awoke to the sun (key tip: leave the curtains open Claudia!) at 10am and promptly ordered a fruit/yoghurt smoothie, pancakes, a fruit platter and some coffee.
My hour ride on a jet ski at 40mph in the middle of the sea yesterday was so exhilarating that I thought it would be a perfect idea to re-create it today…. but on the road, perched on a moped (which I have never attempted to ride before), with no real thought to the fact that OTHER motorbikes, cars, jeeps and a van with an elephant on the back (?!) would also be riding alongside me. It was a complete dream; after the first ten minutes of basically repeating ‘oh f***’ in my head on a continuous loop.
Still, I’m writing this so clearly I survived. Just. And I’ve travelled an entire lap of the main road that runs around the island. I stopped for lunch in the south on the most incredible beach, and finished with a couple hendricks & tonic at the Woo Bar of the W Hotel. Which is now my ultimate hotel crush.
**Update**. Actually posting this three days after it was written, due to the internet and being in Thailand the images wouldn’t upload. And I couldn’t possibly blog without images. I’ve been on the moped another two days running. It’s my new favourite thing. Please may I have a Vespa in the UK. I’ve also sat on the front of an open speedboat in a storm and felt utterly alive.
Samui, you have my heart.
