Happy Monday, world!

The Wedding Spotlight brings a new feature to the blog as I’m currently training a fantastic new Creative Manager to support me in pushing the business forward; professionally and socially. I’m so excited to be able to support hand-picked wedding suppliers from around the globe in a weekly feature to showcase their work and provide useful information to those soon to be married.

First up will be the incredible Julie from HeartOfBricks who makes and sells Lego cake toppers via her etsy shop.

1. First things first, could you tell us a little bit about yourself and what you do?

I am a huge Lego fan who loves sharing my creations with others, especially for those special occasions in our lives. I am a very proud mother of three boys and grandmother to two boys and two girls. My sons were the reason I was first introduced to Lego and my grandchildren have rekindled that love of creating from our imaginations. I set up an Etsy shop called HeartOfBricks in 2015 with a view to producing something that customers would recognise as personable, unique, quirky and loads of fun. Most couples want something different that will be truly memorable for the biggest day of their lives and Lego’s sheer popularity and versatility made it the obvious medium to use to create both a personable and fun item to place on a wedding cake. The fun begins when designing an individual topper for the customer by choosing themes, colour schemes  and swapping heads, hair and outfits; customers also enjoy the fun of putting their cake topper together as nothing is glued! We are always open to ideas and suggestions from customers to create something that is very personal to them and our aim is to create something that is unique to each couple.

2. What inspires you to push yourself creatively or further in business?

I have had so many lovely comments from couples about our products and they love the idea of being able to keep them as a moment of their special day. It makes me feel very privileged to have made a small but important contribution to their celebration. I pride myself in complete inclusion of race/culture/sexuality/diversity in my creations as this is very important to me as a woman in a long term same sex relationship.

3. What does your daily routine look like?

Most of my day is spent sorting/sourcing and building Lego! As an order comes in I then source, build and photograph the topper for the customer. Part of my day is spent on social media ‘spreading the word’ and keeping a finger in the pulse of wedding trends and Lego building ideas. The rest of the day is spent carefully packaging up orders ready for shipping.

4. What’s your favourite memory from working in this field so far?

I had the great honour of supplying a customised cake topper to Helen Glover and Steve Backshall and had it featured in OK magazine!

5. What advice would you give to couples to make the most of their wedding day?

Take time out, just the two of you, to enjoy each other’s company and soak in the experience. Also eat lots of cake of course!

Thank you so much Julie for being part of The Wedding Spotlight! You can also find HeartOfBricks on FACEBOOK and INSTAGRAM and TWITTER — she has also very kindly offered a 10% discount to any readers of this by quoting BLOG10.
