Happy Monday all! Hooray! I’m actually posting this feature up on a Monday, as originally promised. That MUST mean that wedding season is calming down…. (ish). SO excited to bring you this interview with Helaina Storey wedding design today, I’ve been following H on Facebook and Instagram for ages and just adore her vision….
I founded Helaina Storey Wedding Design when I fell head over heels in love with the industry following our own wedding day. I discovered the perfect way to combine my love for fashion, style and interior design with my knack for organising and planning. My ethos is to approach every single wedding day with the same enthusiasm and dedication as I did my own. I like to think my infectious, bubbly personality and open, honest nature is reflected in my work and appreciate that each bride and her wedding day is completely unique. I style and plan to precision individual, design-focused events for couples wanting a memorable, visually spectacular and personal day, that is a true reflection of them and everything they adore.
I am inspired every day by the world around me but mostly by my couples and what makes their own hearts soar. My service is completely tailored to each individual client and there is something so thrilling about being given a brief to run with and see their joy at the end result. I am always pushing my creative boundaries, aiming for absolute perfection in everything I do and adapting to no two requirements ever being the same, which makes my job an absolute pleasure. I am blown away by the creative talent that exists in the industry but what I love most is that we all work together to support and inspire each other rather than seeing each other as competition.
There is no better motivation than wonderful feedback from my couples after their wedding day, to be recommended to other couples and make new friends for life.
One of the most amazing things about my business is that no two days are ever the same. I can go from hours and hours of admin and marketing tasks behind the screen to dinner with my favourite florist, coffee with a couple to discuss their plans or collaborating with the suppliers I admire most on spectacular styled shoots. I had one styling consultation walking in circles around a shopping centre with a couple pushing their two small children along in toy cars to keep them amused whilst we talked ‘wedding’ and I made voice notes on the groom’s phone! It’s so magical to have their creative trust and such a close part of my couples lives, involved in such a significant time for them and their loved ones. There are no limits to how involved I will get if required and I am often lucky enough to be made to feel just like a guest or part of the family at my clients weddings. It’s wonderful to then stay in touch afterwards and see how their futures unfold as a married couple. It’s all about the love, after all.
I work a lot on weddings in France at Chateau la Durantie, the venue we got married at and where I am now the recommended planner and stylist. I am so grateful for the opportunity to travel, making things look beautiful and help couples have the day of their dreams. It hardly feels like work!
My proudest moment in this career so far has to be my first feature in Vogue, just 3 months after my website went live. That was when I thought, ‘Hey I’m not bad at this and it could really go somewhere’. I have never looked back.
My advice? Always…be you. Do whatever makes you happy on your wedding day. It is only about you and your future husband or wife. Let your personalities shine through, party on, throw tradition to the wind and just have the most incredible, personal and heartwarming celebration of love and family, that means everything to you both and that you will never forget.
