Bouquet, Derby — Wine Bar & Launch Night Photography

A Derby wine bar worth knowing about

Bouquet is one of those places Derby genuinely needed. A wine bar, events space and wine wholesaler all in one; open seven days a week, serving locally roasted coffee and pastries from The Loaf in Crich during the day, shifting into cheese and charcuterie boards and tapas in the evening, with a carefully curated selection of over 300 bottles and 20 wines by the glass. It's the kind of independent that takes everything seriously without taking itself too seriously.

I shot their interiors ahead of opening and then came back for the launch night itself.

The interiors shoot

Before a venue opens there's a window; everything is clean, the light is right, nobody is in the way. Interior photography at this stage is about capturing the space at its best before the daily reality of running a busy venue sets in.

Bouquet's space has a lot going for it visually; the wine, the styling, the atmosphere of a room that's been put together by people who care about how it feels to be in it. The brief was to capture that before the doors opened; images for the website, social media and any press around the launch.

The launch night — Fumo Folk and the horsebox

The launch night brought in Fumo Folk to supply food from their horsebox; a brilliant pairing for a wine bar opening, the kind of detail that tells you a lot about the people behind the venue. Launch night photography is a different discipline to a standard interiors or food shoot; it's faster, more atmospheric, more about capturing energy than perfection.

A room & courtyard full of people on a launch night has a particular feeling; excitement, anticipation, everyone wanting to be part of something new. That's what the images needed to capture alongside the food and the space itself.

The shoot

A mix of interiors before the doors opened and atmospheric event photography on the night; food from the Fumo Folk horsebox, the wine, the room, the people. The kind of shoot that moves quickly and rewards staying alert.
