Derby Newborn Photography Prices Explained
When you start looking for a newborn photographer in Derby, one of the first questions you’ll have is simple: how much does it cost?
It can feel like a minefield. Some photographers advertise a “session fee” that looks affordable, but you only find out afterwards that you’ll need to spend hundreds or even thousands more to actually receive your images. It’s one of the biggest frustrations parents tell me about this industry.
So let me break it down clearly… what I charge, what you’ll receive, and why my pricing works the way it does.
My Derby newborn photography packages
I keep things really simple. You choose between two options:
£250: a full newborn session at home and 10 digital images of your choice
£350: a full newborn session at home and all of the images (usually 40+, in both colour and black and white versions) plus a complimentary extra session to use later, often for a first birthday or milestone.
That’s it. No hidden extras.
What’s included in the session price?
Packages include:
Up to 2 hours of relaxed photography in your home (enough time to feed, change, cuddle and settle your baby without stress).
A gallery of edited images delivered online, ready for you to view and choose from.
Both colour and black and white versions, so you can pick what feels most timeless for you.

Prints, frames and extras
Once your gallery is ready, you’ll also have access to my online store where you can order prints, frames, and gifts if you’d like to.
Some examples:
A large 30 x 30 frame with 9 square images is £400 including shipping.
A print pack of 24 small square prints (4x4 inches) is £40 including shipping, perfect for baby announcements or gifting grandparents.
The key thing to know is that I don’t inflate these prices. The industry standard mark-up on prints and frames is often around 300%. I only add a small amount to cover the costs of running the store (like my gallery subscription and admin). I want these to be accessible, not a shock.
Why are your prices different from other Derby newborn photographers?
A lot of photographers charge a “session fee”, sometimes £50–£100, and then invite you back to a sales appointment where you feel pressure to buy packages that cost hundreds or even thousands. It’s a model that works for some, but it’s not me.
I’d rather be upfront from the start. What you see is what you pay. If you book me, you know exactly what you’re getting and there’s no pressure afterwards.
Do you offer anything cheaper?
Yes… I sometimes run mini sessions at £100 for 30 minutes with 5 images included.
But here’s the honest truth: I don’t recommend these for newborns. Babies are unpredictable. If your little one cries or feeds through most of the session, that’s still the 30 minutes gone. It can mean you walk away with very few photographs, and I don’t offer re-dos on minis.
With a full newborn session, I allow plenty of time. If your baby needs to be cuddled, changed, or simply doesn’t feel like playing ball, that’s all part of it — and we always get beautiful results. In fact, in over a decade of photographing newborns, I’ve never had a parent walk away without photos they love.
FAQs about newborn photography pricing
How much should I expect to pay for a newborn photographer in Derby?
Prices vary widely. Studio photographers often charge a low session fee (£65 or so) but then require you to purchase image packages afterwards, often costing £500–£1000. Lifestyle photographers like me usually include the images in the session price. My packages are £250 or £350.
What if we aren’t happy with the photos?
I’ve never had a family leave a newborn session unhappy, but if for any reason you felt your gallery didn’t reflect your family, I would offer to re-do a full session free of charge.
Are there hidden costs?
No. My session price includes your images. Extras like frames or prints are optional.
Do you offer payment plans?
If spreading the cost would help, just ask. I’m happy to make that possible.
Final thoughts
Booking a newborn photographer should feel exciting, not stressful. You deserve to know upfront what the cost will be and exactly what you’ll receive.
My newborn photography in Derby is priced simply because I want families to focus on what matters: welcoming your baby and having memories you’ll treasure forever.
